Co Curricular Activities

Interschool Sports

Nossal High School provides students with an opportunity to extend their learning outside the classroom through the Interschool Sport Program. The school is a member of the Casey North Division and is a part of the Southern Metropolitan Region with School Sport Victoria (SSV). We compete regularly in Intermediate and Senior competitions against other local secondary schools.

The sports program at Nossal High School gives all students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, including the following inter-school sports below.

Term 1 Term 2 Term 3
  • Volleyball
  • Cricket
  • Tennis
  • Softball
  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Soccer
  • Badminton
  • Girls Football
  • Boys Netball
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis

Students are also given the opportunity to participate in the house athletics, swimming and cross country carnivals. Winners of these house competitions will advance to inter-school division competitions.

Debating

Participation in debating equips students with valuable research and speaking skills essential for success in most walks of life. It is a challenging activity, especially when pitching ideas and arguments against students from rival schools. At the same time it is great fun, and imbues participants with greater confidence.

Nossal High School competes in the Debating Association of Victoria competition, in the Berwick region. Debates are held approximately once a month for the first half of the year on a Thursday evening at St Margaret’s School in Berwick. Students practice at school during lunchtimes.

Debating is also part of the English curriculum in Years 9 and 10. The annual House debates, and the student vs. teacher debate, are highlights of the school year and are hotly contested.

Co-curricular Groups

Clubs and societies

Nossal High School has a number of student- and staff-run co-curricular clubs and societies.

In 2016 the SRC and staff are devoting considerable energy to expanding what is offered to the school population and finding ways to make clubs and societies sustainable as their members, mostly students, come and go from the school. Watch this space.

Previous clubs continuing in 2016 include:

  • Aikido
  • Anime Bukatsu
  • Aviation Group
  • AV Team
  • Chess and board games

  • Vive la France!
  • Game-makers
  • Kite-flying
  • Knitting
  • Literature Circle
  • Nossal Environment Sustainability Team
  • Photography
  • Fine arts

The majority are student lead and run. Knitting, Cosplay and Photography are considering amalgamation to form a new super Creativity club.

Though not clubs, the school also offers weekly Zumba and yoga sessions.
