Careers and Pathways

Careers and Pathways at Nossal High School

Careers and pathways represent the professional journey individuals navigate throughout their lives — combining employment opportunities and educational routes to achieve occupational goals and personal fulfillment. Life after school isn’t just one fixed job forever, but a series of positions that evolve as you grow and develop new skills.

As adults, our students will need to keep pace with changing technology and industries, seize new employment opportunities, and in some cases be entrepreneurial in creating their own business or self-employment ventures. Our students are unlikely to follow a single career trajectory across their lifetime — they will experience multiple job changes and work in an increasingly casualised and part-time workforce. They will need not only professional or technical skills, but general employability skills and adaptive capacity.

Pathways to Your Future

There are many routes to reach your professional destination. These may include pursuing higher education at a college or university, completing an apprenticeship where you learn while working, obtaining industry-specific certifications, or starting in an entry-level position and advancing through experience. The modern career landscape is flexible — you’re not locked into one path, and it’s perfectly normal to discover your professional calling by exploring different options. What matters most is finding work that leverages your strengths and provides personal satisfaction while meeting the evolving needs of the economy.

Career Development at Nossal

High quality career development services can prepare students to manage these challenges and navigate the world of work. At Nossal High School, we measure our careers program against the national standards developed by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA).

Our Career Education and Pathways programs help students discover their strengths, explore career options, and prepare for life after school. Services are delivered by both professional and teaching staff across a variety of settings, including:

  • Individual counselling sessions with our career development practitioner
  • Classroom learning connected to real-world career contexts
  • Experiential and work-based learning opportunities
  • Careers information days and industry networking
  • Discussions with industry, educational, and employer representatives

What We Offer Students

  • Skills Development — resume writing, interview practice, and work experience placements
  • Pathway Planning — subject selection advice and post-school options exploration

For Parents and Families

Our programs connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities, build confidence for future transitions, and develop essential employability skills.
